At NAB 2011 there were several new 3D-TV cameras on shown. Panasonic also have a 3D ‘prosumer’ camera first seen at NAB in 2010, and a consumer 3D-TV camera first seen at the IFA in September 2010. Sony also has a prosumer 3D-TV and a professional camera. The regular 3D camera companies such as 3ality showed rigs on which can be mounted at right angles two 2D cameras, to create a 3D camera.

The JVC 3D camera

New 3D-TV models on show at this year’s NAB included from JVC a prosumer upgraded version of a 3D consumer camera launched very recently. The camera has an auto stereoscopic (no glasses needed) viewfinder for composition, which seemed very helpful in 3D shot composition.

Head mounted 3D camera

Possibly the cutest 3D-TV camera on show was the miniature model from GoPro. This can be ‘head mounted’ and used for action sports etc. It has a waterproof housing, and thus can be used for underwater 3D-TV shooting. Should eventually Boxers wear such cameras to give us the full feeling of the fight?
