Building on a long history of collaboration, the EBU once again supported the ASBU (Arab States Broadcasting Union) Week of Technology conference earlier this month. Taking place for the 11th time, the event in Tunis focused on a wide range of topics and brought together around 40 technology leaders from ASBU and its members.
EBU contributions came both from experts in the Technology & Innovation Department and from EBU Member representatives who lead key work areas.
Presentations related to spectrum were highly appreciated, covering the WRC-23 preparations of broadcasters and PMSE stakeholders. Another important topic was accessibility services, and in particular the ways in which HbbTV can ease the deployment of such services.
On the production side, attendees appreciated the opportunity to hear about the latest developments in live IP-based production, where the EBU has been a key player. Related presentations covered wireless IP-based production and cybersecurity on IP networks and devices. The EBU's work on UHD and, in particular, high dynamic range was also on the agenda.
Walid Sami, who coordinated the EBU contributions to the Week of Technology, welcomed the opportunity for dialogue on many important topics:
"Wherever they are located, broadcasters are facing increased competition from global tech giants coupled with budgetary and regulatory pressures. These challenges make exchange and collaboration among broadcasters all the more important. It has been a pleasure to once again lend our support to our ASBU colleagues for this valuable event."
