Scope
The Connected Cars and Devices group brings EBU Members together to explore the challenges and opportunities of media consumption in a new generation of hyper-connected devices, with a particular focus on cars. We serve as an open forum for sharing projects, strategies, and insights, with the goal of building collaboration between Members and industry partners. Our work shapes a unified public service media perspective that benefits audiences — ensuring radio and PSM content remains easy to find and use across new device categories as the automotive and consumer electronics industries evolve rapidly.
Objectives
We aim to build a strong community of broadcasters helping to define the future of radio in cars, working with car manufacturers to improve the radio experience in connected vehicles. We engage with Members from each of Europe's major car markets and expand the community to include major commercial radio companies. We develop and promote guiding principles for radio in cars — that radio must remain easy to use, impossible to miss, focused and personalised, and available as a full package of public, private, local, national, and international stations.
Deliverables
- Active involvement of Members from major European car markets (UK, DE, FR, IT, ES) on a regular basis
- Expansion of the community to include major commercial radio companies in Europe
- Development and publication of guiding principles for radio in connected cars
- Engagement with car manufacturers and platform providers on PSM prominence and accessibility
