The Expert Community “Platforms and Services” (ECP) held a kickoff meeting on 27 and 28 May 2010 at the EBU Headquarters in Geneva. The meeting was prepared in the form of a workshop, therefore encouraging full interaction of all participants. It was coordinated by Gino Alberico (RAI CRIT) - Chair and Martin Schmalohr (IRT) – Vice-Chair.
The first day was devoted to adopting the ECP strategic plan of activities, agreeing the main short-term tasks and deliverables and defining the organisational structure of this expert community.
The second day was an opportunity of sharing our EBU views with representatives from other constituencies: manufacturers, broadcast and broadband operators, technology and software providers, etc.
Some of the topics addressed involved: Internet TV and radio applications, HTML 5 applications, hybrid broadcast broadband developments in Europe (HbbTV, Canvas, etc) and worldwide, mobile devices and home network services and applications, access services as well as related standardisation activities conducted by ETSI, DVB, Open IPTV Forum, W3C, IETF and other international bodies.
