André Berthold (ARD, SWR) & Jochen Schmidt (ZDF)

        

André Berthold (ARD, SWR) Senior Engineer, Head of “Technology and Software Development” department at ARD.de André Berthold (39) studied Computer Science, Computational Linguistics and French at the universities of Leipzig, Strasbourg (France) and Saarbrücken.

He has been working as a software developer in different industries since 1990. He began developing his know-how of IT infrastructure as a network administrator and software developer at the University of Saarbrücken. André Berthold has been working for ARD at the Internet “Dachdomain” ARD.de at SWR since 1999. He participated in the setup of the domain in 1999 and remains responsible for the technical and technological development of the website. Since then, he has been coordinating the work of the ARD Rundfunkanstalten for their common online projects in different technical working groups.

In 2002 he became head of the “Technology and Software Development” department at ARD.de. The setup of the Content Management System (CMS) Coremedia, the expansion of the online content syndication of the ARD Rundfunkanstalten, the introduction of the ARD Online Radio Programme Guide and the development and technical support of many web applications and ARD theme weeks are among the milestones in the development of ARD.de.

Since 2007, André Berthold has been the project head for ARD Mediathek and DasErste.de Mediathek. He was in charge of the IT design and setup of the application and the technical supply of metadata from the Rundfunkanstalten that deliver content for the Mediatheken. He is responsible for ensuring the further development of the application and its adaptation to the needs of the users and the editorial teams, as well as the technical operation of the Mediathek.

André Berthold has been a member of the internet jury of the German-French Journalist Award since 2004. He is married, has 2 children and has been living in Mainz since 2002. He plays double bass and piano.

 

            

Jochen Schmidt Zweites Deutsches Fernsehen – ZDF Senior Engineer, member of „Geschäftsbereich Informations - und Systemtechnologie“ (ZDF IT department).

After studying electronics, Jochen Schmidt (44) began working within ZDF. He defined several projects for Digital TV together with Telco companies, ARD and other broadcasters. After first studies and proof-of-concepts, goal was the setup of an integrated production and distribution technology platform for digital TV and data broadcasting services. Additionally, Jochen Schmidt defined new-media services together with ZDF´s editorial departments. He was project manager for setting up ZDF´s „Data Broadcast Center“ (DBC) which is a technical department for operating all data and internet services for ZDF and it´s partners (3sat, Phoenix etc.). Within DBC, all internet and data broadcasting portals are produced and hosted by using complex multichannel content management platforms. Additionally, DVB-SI and EPG data are produced and delivered.

Since 2002, Jochen Schmidt managed several projects for internet portals and video distribution platforms. Since 2007, he is responsible as leading project manager for setup and further development of ZDF Mediathek with several technical and CMS platforms for ZDF web portals.

Currently, he works around adapting ZDF´s Mediathek production technology for HbbTV and mobile devices.
