How do you manage successfully the preservation, digitisation, organisation, marketing and use of audiovisual magnetic and film media In the digital world? That is the focus of the Master Course the EBU is co-organising to help preserve the audiovisual memory in Europe.

Impact of new technologies

The exploitation of content is helped by the wide range of new outlets that are now available for the consumption of audiovisual media (think internet and mobile devices). "Valorisation" of archive material thus is a key theme in the Master Course and will be addressed in the second part - October 2011.

First things first

The first week, which will be held in June 2011, focusses on the essential elements required to restore and preserve archive material. Topics addressed include how to create a 'digitisation plan', how to assess current material in both quantitative and qualitative terms and a range of technical topics, such as cleaning, baking, the vinegar-syndrome, audio-visual formats, rights management systems, etc.

Joint course

The Master Course is organised by INA, (the large French audiovisual archive organisation) in partnership with EBU TRAINING and the International Federation of Television Archives ( FIAT/IFTA). It is supported by the European Union's MEDIA programme.
