EBU UHDTV, HDR and NGA survey 2019 - results

EBU BPN 120

This document contains the results of the EBU UHDTV, HDR and NGA survey, performed among EBU Members in the second half of 2019.

The results of the survey show that there is a continuous evolution of public service media offerings towards UHDTV. This is reflected in the planned adoption of new formats, including High Dynamic Range (HDR).

The move away from interlaced towards progressive video formats is very clear, although all video formats are expected to be in use in the coming years.

On the audio side there is interest in Next Generation Audio (NGA), but hurdles towards its widespread adoption remain, such as the current lack of codecs support, the immaturity of user interfaces, and questions about user acceptance.
