The growth of online audiences is pushing broadcasters not just to deliver more and better content over broadband, but to deliver it more intelligently. At this year’s EBU BroadThinking seminar, industry experts will highlight technology solutions as well as strategies to leverage them. The two-day event (3-4 May 2017) will take place at EBU headquarters in Geneva.

The seminar will take a closer look at opportunities and challenges in 5G, at streaming technologies that improve the user experience, and at approaches that enable new forms of content, such as VR. DASH and new usage models around CDNs are also on the agenda, alongside presentations on smart file workflows in the cloud.

Hybrid CDN at SVT

On day two, SVT (Swedish Television) will share insights gained from creating their own hybrid CDN setup that now handles a large part of the broadcaster's traffic. SVT's solution involves a peering strategy and gives the broadcaster multiple paths of delivery, reduces interconnection costs and improves the Quality of Experience of its audience. The team reports very promising results and will provide a detailed overview, allowing BroadThinking participants to learn how to optimize their own distribution strategies.

Cutting edge demos

During the event a number of demonstration setups will be on display:

  • HDR and HFR DVB-T2 and DASH multiscreen playout
  • DVB-T2 to IP, using your media gateway
  • ATSC3.0: IP-based Service Layer with DASH and ROUTE
  • CMAF for Low Latency streaming
  • Second Screen Media synchronization using HbbTV
  • EBU Flow Multi-CDN project
