EBU R 123 will remain 'as-is' for legacy SD/HD broadcast content production.

With the advent of NGA/MGA production, the need for complex external channel-allocation description is becoming more and more redundant. Solutions such as ADM provide inherent descriptions for applied channel lay-outs and content description. This provide substantial enhancements, especially in the context of UHDTV implementation. For advice on the exchange of audio with UHDTV programmes, please see EBU R 154 (file-based) and EBU R 153 (live).
