This document provides guidelines to safe areas that protect SDTV, HDTV and UHDTV 16:9 originated programme for 16:9 full screen presentation. This document is dated June 2017 (version 1.1) and it contains an extra note (Note 5, extracted from ITU-R BT.1848), as a clarification in the application of the percentages quoted in the recommendation.

FAQ

Are the safe area percentages 3.5% and 5% or 7% and 10%?

The action safe area is 3.5% and the graphics safe area is 5%, at the top, bottom and lateral parts of the image, so 7% and 10% of the complete image.
