On a very busy EBU booth at IBC 2012, one of the surprise "hits" has been a demo that shows how to assess LED lights and their impact on colour rendering. In a clear an simple way the demo shows how different LED lights can deliver dramatically different results. Manufacturers are even invited to come along and test their own lights against various reference sources at the show.

The demo was featured on Friday's edition of "What Caught My Eye", an IBC TV show that picks up interesting stories from around the show floor. The chair of the EBU's LED Project Group, Per Bohler of NRK, was interviewed about the demo, along with Alan Roberts, a colorimetry and measurement expert who works closely with the group.

There has been a lot of interest in all of the demos on the booth. In particular the MPEG-DASH implementation and the new UHDTV test sequences have had a constant stream of visitors. But the demonstrations of Hybrid Radio, FIMS and wireless HD camera technology (the latter from the BBC R&D department) have all been busy.

IBC 2012 continues until Tuesday.
