Thanks to kind support from Canon and Apple, the EBU DSLR Summer Shoot will enable 20 cameramen from EBU members to gain experience shooting HD video with DSLR cameras. The goal of the two-day Summer Shoot, is to provide a thorough understanding of the applicability of DSLRs for professional HD video. The participants will shoot the HD material themselves and then edit it in Final Cut Pro, kindly provided by Apple. Canon 7D, 5D Mark II and 1D4 DSLR cameras will be available for the shooting. The use of various add-ons from HandySLR, Vocas and Zacuto will also be covered.

Surprise

The use of DSLR cameras as a cost-effective means of acquiring professional HD video footage has taken the industry by surprise and is somewhat controversial. Several broadcasters have already used DSLRs for some of their programmes, but for many it is unclear how DSLRs may (and how they may not) be used. EBU TECHNICAL has decided to organise this two-day 'hands-on' event to enable a better understanding of this new form of HD programme acquisition.
