tech-i 14Two groundbreaking technology trials that took place during the London Olympics are featured in the new issue of tech-i, the EBU's quarterly media technology and innovation magazine. The EBU played a key role in fostering the first live public MPEG-DASH trial, to demonstrate the capabilities of the new adaptive streaming standard. An interview with Stefaan Clycq, who coordinated the trial on behalf of Belgian broadcaster VRT, gives an insight into how it went.

The second key breakthrough was the Super Hi-Vision coverage of the Games delivered jointly by Japanese broadcaster NHK and the BBC. An article by David Wood, who had the chance to view the pictures, explains what was involved in making it all work.

Radio also features strongly in this issue, with an update from SWR's Sebastian Kett on recent sigificant progress in rolling out DAB services in Germany. And there's also a report on an EBU-developed proof-of-concept for a distributed authentication system that could play a key role in driving hybrid radio rollouts.
