Open Software Defined Radio

Radio transmission using digital broadcasting technologies, towards which much of the world is turning as the de facto platform for broadcast, usually requires complex and costly equipment out of reach of individuals.

However, through the use of open source software and affordable open software defined radio platform, things get democratised. A new field of possibilities opens for experimentation, micro networks and the democratisation of radio's future.

In this webinar, the basic principle of software defined radio were explained and some of the open source developments in the field of radio broadcasting were mentioned. In particular, it was shown how it is possible to setup a local DAB transmission using open source MMBTools developed by Communication Research Center Canada (CRC).
