At its annual meeting, this year held in Zagreb, the EBU Technical Assembly has elected the members of the new EBU Technical Committee. The TC serves a two year term, and takes office immediately after the elections. The TC decides technical policy on behalf of EBU members, and steers and approves the work of a large range of groups in areas such as technical standards.

Dr Alberto Morello (RAI), who has chaired the Technical Committee for the last four years, hands over to Arild Helgren (NRK). Mr. Helgren has previously served as Vice Chair of the Technical Committee. The Assembly elected two Vice Chairs: Dr Klaus Ilgner from IRT/ARD/ZDF and Andy Bower from the BBC.

The new team takes over at a time of great changes and challenges in broadcasting technology. At the same time as managing a streamlined structure for the EBU technical activities, the TC has to understand and direct activities in 3DTV, UHDTV, hybrid broadcasting, and much more besides.
