Speakers at this year's convention included the EBU's David Wood and Dr Hans Hoffmann, both speaking about Ultra High Definition Television.

FOBTV moving forward

The programme this year also included a 'Super Session' on the newly-formed FOBTV (Future of Broadcast Television) group. The group aims to move toward a common worldwide standard for digital terrestrial broadcasting in the decades ahead. It has the support of many broadcasting organsiations including the EBU.

EBU Director of Technology & Development Lieven Vermaele, pictured right, presented a European view of television's future, and how it will complement broadband Internet. He underlined that wireless broadband was nothing more than a short term solution to the provision of internet, as public demand for video content will exceed its its capability.

The Super Session launched the next phase of the FOBTV group's work, which is the establishment of a committee structure.
