Background

Broadcasters are required to make careful mid-to-longer-term strategy decisions on their investments in production systems (e.g. LED studio lighting, cameras, lenses, compression formats, non-linear editing & transcoding, video quality and so forth).

Whilst today many broadcasters are migrating to the legacy HDTV formats, new HDTV formats such as 1080p/50, and even 3DTV and 4k are discussed and promoted by the industries, thus requiring a careful assessment by the EBU and advice to its members.
