Future Network and Storage Systems (FNS)

This Strategic Programme is about IP network technology and storage, including both realtime and non-realtime distributed storage architectures.

Context

The exchange of media information (production, contribution and primary distribution) is clearly moving towards IP network technologies. This includes media data sharing in real-time and non-real-time as well as distributed storage architectures which are able to handle large files.

For contribution and primary distribution EBU Members have to make use of telecom services and enter into partnerships with telecom operators. This situation would benefit from there being a common position of the broadcasting organisations within the telecom world and towards the manufacturing industry of networks and interfaces (Service Level Agreements).

Issues regarding the management of networks with broadcast content arise too; including how to ensure interoperability and open standards in order to ensure Quality of Service requirements of broadcasters for the exchange of content in live or mission critical events (and even in non-real time cases).
